EXHAUST
PORT WINDOW
of a Chevrolet SB2-2. Here the direct shot of the exhaust gasses exiting
the cylinder can be seen. Keep in mind that the "set up" of these begins
to the side of what we see here, since these ports are off-center of the
cylinder, unlike the Chrysler Hemi, or other engines where the port
exits in the middle. Such high pressure coming from the side creates a
bias not shown by this accurate representation of the SB2-2 head, which
tilts the exhaust flow along the floor, unlike the rather parallel to
the deck floor angle shown here. But this is the way it is, and the
SB2-2 head is one of the best for what it does. Don't confuse port
windows with properly shaped, consistent
CROSS SECTIONAL AREA
ports. There is such a thing as too straight a shot port window, if it
has been at the expense of properly contoured bends on the port roof and
floor which maintain consistent cross sectional area and
LAMINAR FLOW.
