For
years the above illustration was printed on the back of MEI T-Shirts, and no one
ever grasped its significance. It was just "another logo." The 1982
US Patent:
#4,365,785,
established new rocker arm geometry principles that even to this day elude
many experts, because they continue to argue petty points of setting geometry
that still wastes cam information with excessive motion. In various magazine tech articles
before and after I introduced "Installed Geometry" to the cam industry through the 1988 Lunati catalog,
the more critical "Design Geometry" which is the most important was always
kept "top secret."
The following information explains the nitty-gritty of the ultra-important
PUSH-ROD side of rocker geometry, where everything really begins. And
ironically, is the very thing that the most advertised names in cams and
rockers have avoided for over 30 years.
In 1992, Chevrolet made a public declaration in the October issue of
Car Craft magazine, endorsing MID-LIFT as the preferred geometry. Five years
later, the article was
Crower's
"blueprint for
innovation."
In
1995, I printed the confidential Professional Engine Builder
(PEB) brochure, for several of NASCAR's top teams who signed our
confidential agreement. Teams that we worked “under the table” with for
testing, but never advertised.
In 2000, a
confidential directive
from Chrysler's engineers,
dated:
March 8th, 2000, was sent to
their "magnificent seven" race teams, spearheaded by Ray Evernham,
with drawings in it that were precise copies of the MID-LIFT Patent. That
Chrysler directive mandated that all
Chrysler engines being built for their NASCAR debut use
MID-LIFT
geometry. I just happened to see it during a conference with Evernham on March
9th, one day after it was issued. Coincidence?
The
MID-LIFT
technical information
presented here sets a new standard that has never been offered by any rocker
arm manufacturer.
We're not concerned about "educating
our
competition." I do not compete, nor have I ever tried to compete with
other manufacturers. We rarely advertise for the same reason. But make no
mistake, the best in the country where "secrets" count and winning counts
more, especially at the professional levels like NASCAR, use MID-LIFT
geometry. And they are not interested in letting others know it. I've
published this for six years, and I couldn't say it if it wasn't true. My concern,
as a long time engine builder myself, is eliminating the confusion and bringing
what some think is a
new standard to engine builders and our distributors. But the
fact is, those "in the know" -- have quietly enjoyed this Patented technology for many years.
"They" just don't want you to know about it, and most don't want to give
credit for where it began. Well, this is where it began, in 1973. So forget
the hype of four color ads and multimillion dollar cam and rocker companies
who followed the mistakes of the past, TO THIS DAY continue to confuse, to
save face. Learn, apply and win.
